Q1: How do I choose the right instrument for my child?
A1: Bringing students to music shops and concerts before they choose an instrument is always recommended - giving them a rough idea of what they may be interested in playing. At AMA, we provide one free trial lesson for any instruments. Students are welcome to trial the instruments that they are interested in before setting foot on the one (or few) to continue with.
Q2: I do not yet want to buy an instrument for my child at the early stage of learning, will this affect their learning?
A2: It is strongly recommended that students have their own instruments once they start learning. Besides buying, there are other options such as instrument hire. AMA has longstanding relationship with some local music shops that provide hiring services. Students may also hire our piano or drum practice rooms at a discounted rate.
Q3: Do students have to do examinations?
A3: Examinations are stepping stones and a chance for students to get feedback on their strengths and weaknesses outside of classroom. AMA as the New Zealand head office of St. Cecilia Examination Board as well as examination venue for Auckland region, has guided many students in achieving exceptional results in music examinations allowing them to improve more efficiently on techniques. We also provide examination training in ABRSM, Trinity and Rock School examination boards.
Q4: Are there lessons during school breaks?
A4: We are open everyday including school breaks. However, we are closed for New Zealand public holidays and there is one 3-week holidays at the end of the year.
Q5: How does the payment work?
A5: There are options of prepay MONTHLY or PER 10 LESSONS. For 10-lesson payments, there is an allowance of 2 credit lessons for the student.
Q6: What happens if I cannot make to lessons?
A6: Students are required to contact AMA at least 24 hours prior to scheduled lessons for cancellations/rescheduling. We will then postpone the lesson fees to the following lesson. Lesson fee will be charged if no contacts are made for absentees.
